Agree with you needing less the fitter you get..The amount of runners I see at 10k or 10 mile race's using gels you just do not need them over that distance..if you have fueled up correctly before and you are
hydrated there should be no need for gels over that distance..
Exactly so! I don't even use drinks for up to 10m (unless it's a race.. and again I would take a sip if it's provided regularly). I'm used to perform for up to 2 hours without anything more than drinks. I did use gels once, but I didn't feel the benefit. Maybe I'm not good enough to make a difference, I'm not sure.. plus they taste like cr*p!

Having said that I could possibly need a chocolate cupcake, but I haven't found a way to accomodate one in my jersey....

I get out at 7am for the ride and a cake shop stop. Back home for family stuff by 12.30-1pm. Other half likes me to get my 'sanity' fix weekly
