Filtering slowly (on the left) towards the ASL, following the route my neighbour had just taken (was about to have a 'chat'), road covered with wet leaves, felt my front wheel pick 'something up', next the rear wheel and cranks had stopped rotating........slid to a halt..........

Quick unclip.................. nope - shoe was pinned to the SPD pedal............timber............

Thank goodness for wet muddy soft grass verges eh....... I scrambled up and found a hoop of thick wire tangled over the crank. The front wheel had flipped it up, one end looping over my shoe (left a mark on the overshoe) and the other end was pulled taught by the rear wheel going over it - locking drive, and my foot to the pedal......

The bike was fine, and just mud down my left side. I was up that quick, discarded said loop of wire, and back on the bike, and didn't miss the lights changing back to red......

Caught up neighbour at next lights where there were road works, and he told me about a small sports car earlier that week that had hit one of the raised manhole covers at the road works. Major damage to engine, smoke everywhere and airbags deployed - passenger still in car covered with airbag.....

So folk, it's not just leaves, man hole covers and road debris we have to watch out for, so should drivers of low slung cars.....

A small piece of wood flicked up and went between the chain and sprockets. Derailed the chain and I went a pearler.

Not the kind of thing I told everybody about.

Extra clean required tonight then? I nearly 'lost it' today on a patch of wet leaves,felt the rear go but managed to keep it upright somehow

I worked with a man who was walking his bike to Hebden Bridge station when he slipped on wet leaves. The fall broke his pelvis! (Or it might have been his hip - it was 20 years ago and I forget which - whatever... wet leaves are hazardous!)

I crashed my MTB on wet leaves on top of wet cobbles, now there's a lethal combination! I ripped a new cycling jacket and took a few chunks out of myself, but did no serious damage.

In Hendaye I foolishly decided to follow the green painted cycle lane along the outside of a roundabout. It was raining, I was going downhill and the shiny green paint gave me no chance. Without even braking the front wheel did its own thing and down I went. The strange thing is I was completely unscathed and so was the bike. Just a bit of road dirt.. That'll teach me not to use cycle lanes (I hope).

Had my first clipless moment this week, after using them for 6 months or so.
Turning into an ally, I slow right down and go wide in case anyone is walking round the corner so I'm out of the way. Unfortunatly went too wide this time, my front wheel slipped off the kerb edging hidden by the leaves and stuck in the earth. Luckily it's a quiet lane so no one saw me topple over like a sack o' spuds or hear the groan as I hit the tarmac (the leaves cushioned some of the fall).

Recently changed from an old set of shimano spd pedals to new crank bros candy 3 so hope it's not because of the difference in unclipping, as I am finding them less intuitive.

Funny, after it happened and I'm lying there I thought - surely I had time to unclip why didn't I?
