I was riding along a narrow urban road this morning and to allow the traffic queue behind me to get passed I hopped up onto the pavement, after first being sure it was clear of pedestrians. All the tailing vehicles went by and I dropped back onto the road. It suddenly occured to me that in a lifetime of cycling I have never had a car/lorry/bus driver stop his vehicle and tell me to get off the path and onto the road. I have been told to get off the road many times but never the other way round. I guess motorists don't mind cyclists breaking the law if it helps them get along the road.
