I was riding along a narrow urban road this morning and to allow the traffic queue behind me to get passed I hopped up onto the pavement, after first being sure it was clear of pedestrians. All the tailing vehicles went by and I dropped back onto the road. It suddenly occured to me that in a lifetime of cycling I have never had a car/lorry/bus driver stop his vehicle and tell me to get off the path and onto the road. I have been told to get off the road many times but never the other way round. I guess motorists don't mind cyclists breaking the law if it helps them get along the road.

You sound like your footwear was broken and perhaps needed adjusting?

Cracking a solo.
That's a coincidence, I was on the final stretch of the commute this morning heading downhill when I spotted a fella pedaling along on the pavement behind a couple of young girls making their way to school. I'd guess I was doing high 20s possibly 30mph so gained on him very quickly. They've been resurfacing the road recently and there was a road sign on the pavement which was going to block the cyclist as well as the two girls. Being incredibly observant I took a wild guess at what was going to happen so moved from primary to the outside of the lane, sure enough the numpty dropped straight off the pavement then pulled out far enough to go around the girls that had by now stepped off the pavement to go around the sign. He didn't look at all until I said "You really should check behind you mate." I was level with him at this point, he cacked himself and apologised profusely, thing is HE HAD MIRRORS!

Wasn't you was it?

I made a perfectly safe manouvre. Before returning to the road I checked behind me to ensure the road was clear. I made sure the path was clear before going onto it and was only on it for about 50 yards. There were no pedestrians in sight. I allowed about a dozen vehicles or so to pass on a very narrow road safely and without any aggro towards me. I don't really care what other oh so perfect cyclists say, I would do the same tomorrow.
