Has anyone had any issues selling a bike via the just Ridden website? Iv been talking with someone who says they want my bike, thing is when iv advertised it on forums like this people ask alot of questions about the bike... This lady on once Ridden hasn't asked a single question about the bike and only wants to pay via pay pal... Arranging her own courier to collect from my home... Iv heard about people being scamed out of the bike and they then request the money back from PayPal leaving the seller with no bike or money? Am I just being paranoid or should I be wary of this website

No specific knowledge but my advice would be you'd have no proof of delivery. With eBay either courier for proof of delivery else get the buyer to sign acceptance if collected.

Tell her that you don't do PayPal and ask if she is willing to pay the money directly into your bank account?

Thanks for the info guy's, iv said if she's serious about buying the bike to pay 60% into my bank and the remaining to PayPal and that I'd arrange for the courier to deliver to her home address. No response to that email so I think she/he was trying to stich me up. She messaged me off the once Ridden site then we started a direct email conversation, she said she's working away so can't collect the bike.

Wot he said ^^^

^^^^^^+1 sounds like a scam to me too,

Tell her it's 'Cash on collection only' and see if you get a reply.

@Hertsdigger are they saying they cant collect themselves due to an injury that leaves them disabled ?

and did you get a text asking you to e mail them ?

Tell her that you don't do PayPal and ask if she is willing to pay the money directly into your bank account?

It's a scam I've sold motorbikes cars cycles all on gumtree every time after a couple of days I get the exact same mail you describe. Don't want to view it happy to pay asking price can't collect in person as they work off shore or have had a recent accident so will send a courier etc etc

As said they pay by PayPal only, then open a dispute which gets them the money back you can't prove delivery as you had it collected by "there courier" a paper receipt with a signature won't wash with the PayPal Nazis. They want documented proof tracking numbers addresses usually electronic signature proof. My brother lost a fairly expensive mtb in this manner and it was only through this I found first hand how bad PayPal seem to be if your a seller anyway. Up to you mate but I'd stay well clear.

I have bought bikes and motorbikes in the UK, Germany and Italy by not seeing them and sending a courier. But as the buyer I have asked lots of questions and made sure the bike exists and is where it is supposed to be. I even got someone I have never met from Couchsurfers, to go and knock on a door in Canada. Only to find the "seller" had never lived there. I do not deal with mobile phones, only land lines and I insist on ringing them up at home and at work.

Once I am satisfied as the buyer and bike does exist, I dont mind making a bank order so that they have the money in their account before they send the bike.

Buying bikes can work very well this way. But you need to get a feel for the seller and if they refuse any of your requests, pull back and find another bike.

Iv done a lot of selling with payment via bank transfer and had no problem either ends, PayPal is a different story, they seem to favour the buyer 100% of the time, plus the fees are a joke!
I just got a gut feeling about this person as like I said they didn't ask any info on the bike at all, I know if I was going to buy a 60 year old bike for several hundreds £ I'd want to know every detail about what I was buying.

I think I'll not sell the bike to her/him.. Just feels dodgy.

Yeah, this happened to me when selling my Cove .
Said they really wanted the bike ,and they would pay me in advance via PayPal and a courier would pick it up .Even provided a link (real or not).
I insisted that it was cash only and I already had a PayPal account. If she wanted to come and pick it up that would be great.
She kept insisting that I should open a PayPal account with the link .
And I kept insisting that she come and look at it.She couldn't apparently because she was disabled!!!
She eventually gave up , but I knew it was a scam from the offset. It was good fun while it lasted though.
I had another one who told me they would give me 60 pounds over the asking price with the same scenario.
