Whereas now, over-inflated pick-up thingys are everywhere - and mostly driven by people who don’t deserve a licence… (ducks)

I assume it's some kind of tax angle with a pick up counting as a "commercial vehicle"and thus a much lower "benefit in kind" compared to the £80k luxury vehicles they increasingly resemble. The intention of the rule is not to unfairly penalise a builder legitimately needing a transit, or a farmer his Landy.

That's the size of it, the pick up has to have a load capacity of 1000Kg, and is registered as a commercial, the B.I.K is taxed as a van, however they are subject to the same speed limits as a van, so 50 Mph on NSL single carriageway, 60 Mph, NSL Dual Carriageway, 70 Mph on a motorway, it seems most of the muppets that buy these things have no clue about this, as I would regularly be passed by them on the A19, where the police speed camera van likes to sit on the bridges above the A19, when you spot them, too late, there's a fine on it's way! iirc I think one of the Ford Ranger ones, doesn't have a 1000Kg load capacity, & is registered as a car, but I may have misread that somewhere

Another resting place found on this morning's walk, this time it's an Opel Kadett or as we called it in the UK chevette

My first car was a Chevette, but l always preferred the shape of the Kadette
Likewise, my father had a 2-door Cavalier saloon, when l was learning to drive
I was more of a fan, of the ‘traditional’ grille of the Ascona

I had my very first L drive in one, with its throbbing 1256cc engine and unimaginable power.

The automatic was lovely. 50 odd horsepower, 40 of them wasted on churning vanes through a viscous fluid!

Mine had to work hard to keep up with the electrical needs, as I had a pair of (150watt)) KC Hi-Lighters on it!

150w. I fitted 100/85w to Pam's 205 and they were plenty bright and about all the fuses/wiring would take, the headlamp glass got hot enough to steam when it was raining, in fact the first time it happened at traffic lights I thought the radiator had gone so got out to look and the headlamp lenses were too hot to touch. Not too bad when driving as the airflow kept em cooler* but sat still for 4-5 minutes got them really hot

* not that I checked whilst driving but when we pulled into a motorway services after driving for about an hour with main and dip (when needed) on I got straight out as we stopped and they were hot but not excessively so
