Of the many dubious bits of driving I have witnessed, my probable favourite was driving behind an old couple in little a old car..
Picture the scene..
Man driving, wife, presumably, passenger. As the car started meandering towards the kerb, she reaches over & steers it back towards the centre of the lane. Car then weaves towards the white lines.. Helpful as ever, the missus leans over again & corrects the direction of travel.
As there was a roundabout about a mile up the road I had the time & opportunity to overtake as I didn't want to be a witness when they got to said roundabout 🤦‍♂️

I sat and ate my lunch in Athlone earlier this year after cycling the Greenway, and observed probably the worst driving I ever seen as a really elderly couple tried to parallel park a Ford Ka alongside the kerb.

First he had a go with her dictating. He gave up with the car mostly about 5' away from the kerb. She had a go and made a complete dogs dinner of it as well. Then he had another attempt without success. Then they had an argument.

All the while, passing traffic had stopped to give them space to continue their manoeuvre. They eventually left with most of the car sticking out into the traffic lane.

If I had filmed it all and speeded it up, added a bit of music, it would have made a good Benny Hill sketch!

I felt sorry for them, but neither should really be driving as they had no judgement of the car whatsoever. The space was more than adequate for a small car.

The technologies has existed for some time to stop drivers using phones whilst driving. It could be dome in a number of ways. But god forbid a safety measure to protect the more vulnerable.

A bit like mandatory on board speed restrictors. All due to appear in ljne with EU law which the UK had remained aligned to, but thanks to a public outcry legislation was introduced to make it switchable in UK ,market models.

We dont listen to robbers, burglars or shoplifters when they complain about enforcement measures, so why do road criminals get such countenance? Why do road criminals, who kill 5 and maim 80+ people every single day, hold such sway?

Sorry, I know im preaching to the choir.

Had one today

going along one of those roads where you have to be reasonable and wait for others to pass parked cars etc

anyway - I let someone pass and like a decent person he raised his hand to thank me

as he passed I noticed that his other hand - on the window side so I could see it easily
was holding a good sized sandwich
so at that point he was driving along a narrow road with NO hands

This week's pet hate: drivers waiting to turn right at a junction with yellow hatching who dont know that its ok to pull forward if you can see that the road you're turning into is clear. So that when the lights change, only one car can complete the manoeuvre instead of two or three. Grr.
