I think the worst part of this is that the police will most likely (and as that article suggests) be blamed for this.
Why should the police *not* pursue criminals in case they kill themselves!? Killing/harming other innocent people is a different matter.
For instance, an episode of Road Wars (or other type show) the police called off a three pursuits in as many days of two kids on a stolen bike, neither wearing helmets. The coppers were obviously very concerned that if anything happened to the kids while in a pursuit, they/he would be blamed for it. It seemed they were more concerned because of their lack of helmets.
So instead of being nicked, these youths were left to ride the stolen bike around on pavements and on the wrong side of the road endangering everyone else.
