Sorry if people misread my post. I wasn't celebrating, and in no way did I mean that. I am just stating that it is one less to worry about. And given the manner of his exit, he was one to worry about.

not sure about the gene pool argument, he was 40 and had probably done all the 'seeding' he was going to do…

and at 40, it was not a tragic misadventure of youth, the bloke's absence from society will be a positive thing.

I think the worst part of this is that the police will most likely (and as that article suggests) be blamed for this.

Why should the police *not* pursue criminals in case they kill themselves!? Killing/harming other innocent people is a different matter.

For instance, an episode of Road Wars (or other type show) the police called off a three pursuits in as many days of two kids on a stolen bike, neither wearing helmets. The coppers were obviously very concerned that if anything happened to the kids while in a pursuit, they/he would be blamed for it. It seemed they were more concerned because of their lack of helmets.
So instead of being nicked, these youths were left to ride the stolen bike around on pavements and on the wrong side of the road endangering everyone else.

My thoughts are with the three innocent people in the other car who clearly would have been scared senseless at the time, and now will have to live with the memory of what happened for the rest of their lives. It is easy for the report to say that they received only 'minor injuries' but today they will be emotionally shot and living with disrupted sleep and flashbacks for a long time to come.

IIRC there is a thread somewhere with a link to a news story (Bristol?) of a cyclists death that contains that type of comment below the story, which could e easily read by relatives of the deceased.

This isn't to condone the drivers actions in any way, but to please not drag the forum down to that level.

I'm not going to lament the death of an idiot who, rather than get arrested, risked his own life and the lives of others.
I'm just glad he didn't take anybody else with him because of his stupid actions.

An idiot got him self killed when trying to outrun the police, it's got a bit of Darwinian irony to it but certainly not something to celebrate really. It's just a sign of the times. I feel sorry for the people in the other car as that will most likely make them feel a lot less at ease in a car. In all honesty I don't have much problem with the death of the BMW driver, I'm far from glad about it either, but I do question the tactic of police chases as they do seem to a fair number of by-stander victims in the closing seconds.

Word of warning to people saying that the Passat is good in a crash, you have no idea what happened. The Passat may have just been clipped & thrown the BWM into a roll which then hit a tree plum on the roof over the driver.
