One Minute Motorists

If this has been posted somewhere else I apologise. But, having seen the recent whining about duty increase, this bit of research made me wonder....

Having lived rurally, I know that a duty rise is dead hard on a lot of people, but having seen the erratic drivers of other people, it seems the link between pressing down on the accelerator and burning fuel isn't fully appreciated.

I call it bread and milk syndrome. Seen it many times off neighbours/other people that live near to shops.

The comments are priceless - if I didn't know better I would think they were parodies:

"Iam vegi, so have less of a carbon foot print, so i will drive as much as i like thank you very much,if it means i have to chew a few lentils so be it , i can sleep easy at night thanks
but the cost off fuel does take the p@@s
bring on the elec car"

But its not only short journeys, its also the cars they are being done it. I swapped out our cars years ago for high mpg vehicles and yet the number of people you see driving around in pick-ups and 4x4s that must cost a fortune to fill up these days just says petrol hasn't got expensive enough yet.

Or the ones driving the 4x4s are not the ones who are being hit hard by the price rises.

Classic last night, the guy im working for s wife went to see one of her neighbours last nite. Its 50m along a path, but drove the car 3miles round the road because she didn t want to get her shoes dirty.

I think many people nowadays have lost their soul ... they watch X-Factor and aspire to driving a Range Rover Overfinch and they've forgotten how pleasant it is to be out in the fresh air, enjoy the simple things in life.

Prompted by the other thread on this, I did the sums again yesterday. Break point for me including additional costs of not having a 4*4 always available would be about £3.50 / litre, depending on loss selling a perfectly good car that's only 15 years old for peanuts. I don't doubt that we'll see that in the not too distant future. I'm sort of looking forward to it - I fancy an electric car.

If £3.50 is my point for swapping the gasguzzler for something smaller, what's it for people who commute 20 miles to move house to somewhere nearer work? We must all have our price.
