6.30'ish this evening, Trafalgar Road by the petrol station opposite the Arches Swimming Pool

Ambulance, paramedic and two police cars in attendance, road cordoned off, black bike with pretzeled wheels, small car nearby and guy lying on his back, look concious but difficult to say what happened , but I'd guess he had been left hooked

Hope they are OK.

I cycle that route between 6 - 6.30, and would have been there today had I not been knocked off on Friday by a white van man in Woolwich. I am taking a week off whilst my swollen ankle gets better but the train is driving me mad.

It does just seem to be a matter of time before you get knocked off at the moment!!!!

Very true - and I spent a while last night watching Origamist's videos on how to...
It was a beautiful morning today, and I was travelling at about 15 - 16 mph along the bus lane towards West Hendon when - bam! A person in a nissan micra with children in the back and another in the front decided to look at me... for ages - and then pull out from the left. And stop! And then go!
No chance for me but I hit the rear panel - she was gone - and I performed a slo-mo over the handlebars, watching the road below / above me :headshake:

The driver did stop eventually, (unlike the two important cyclists who trolled past!) and, as I had landed 'perfectly' and not smashed myself up - as usual - I mildly admonished her as to the welfare of her kids if I had been something a bit heavier (is there anything heavier than me on a bike?).

I restarted and then a few kms down the road thought about my 'phone. I also had a GPS in my back pocket -to check the 'in' time - and that was in the other pocket. I retained them both but I wasn't cognisant of checking for them at the time, so people - check your stuff if you have an 'off'.

Then tonight, I was a bit stiff in the elbow, and I noticed the lever was out of alignment. And, my Rolls was torn! Gaffa did the trick though, and I was back racing RLJ cyclists up the Finchley Rd.

All that to say; check your stuff in pockets - particularly as the nicer weather is here and pockets tend to be 'open' not zipped. It's a silly thing - but could be important.

I also heard enough "I'm so sorry"s to last me a week or two

We have to be careful on behalf of others - no-one really cares and they aren't going to fall over in a car.

Take care!

Yes - no problem. Bit sore on the elbow and fingertips tonight but I was Nureyev reborn! I fully expected to hit the car at some point but she pulled away, and it was comical with the front wheel static and the rest of me + bike circling it- heading toward the tarmac.

These things happen, and no amount of f ing and shouting solves anything. Hope she is a bit more circumspect that's all. (and I'm pleased my carbon forks and 'new' wheels stayed intactus - that would have been annoying.)

I've almost come a cropper at the entrance to the petrol station, not by a left hook but by an attempted right-hook as a driver pulled across my path to get more petrol so he could drive like an idiot for longer. It's an alarm-bell junction and the danger can come from either side of the road.

Hope the rider is ok.

Are you saying two people cycled by without stopping? If so, then I'll contest the use of the word ''cyclists'' - drivers on bikes, people on bikes, whatever. But cyclists never!

I had a close one about 2months ago. Usual route to work up a single track no through road(turns into a bridleway at the top) with 2 big houses at the end. I'm travelling about 5mph up an 8% climb when 4x4 comes around the corner, sees me slams on the brakes and starts snaking all over the place, only place for me to go is one wheel up the bank as the discovery slides to a halt beside me and i end up stuck between the trice and the rear bumper as the bank was steeper than i thought. After i don't know how many "i'm so sorry's" she seemed quite shocked that i hadn't started swearing and shouting. After checking everything was fine with trike and myself she said if there were any problems to call at the house. I noticed the other day the discovery has gone and she's driving a small hatchback.

Yes. I know what you mean but... There was a third who asked if I was OK - but he was a long way behind the action. I was admonishing the driver for a teensy bit and I was in hot pursuit of him to say ta.

Besides, I'm working on the tan, and thick skin doesn't need scabs - spoils the look! :becool:

The other guys who passed will reflect in their own good time - or be ignorant... not our problem.

Gentleman cyclist, John. You quickly realise that there is no point 'going into one' don't you? It makes for a more thoughtful world in my opinion.

(Are you seeing her again?)
