It's uncanny, though... Doing a sportive tomorrow, caught a cold last Sunday.

Did the London-Surrey 100, got a cold on previous Saturday and had my back go into painful spasm, to boot.

Every time... Maybe God's telling me to take up golf

Nooooo!!!!! Anything but golf - why would you want to spend a fortune on equipment and daft outfits to pursue a sport..?

I took up golf. Then I lost weight and decided cycling was far more fun.

I have a set of bats in the garage, untouched in two years.

This time of year our family swear by that 'First Defence' nasal spray. Seems to hold off the colds once you sense there's one lurking (or you've been around an obvious 'plague-carrier'). Of course they have the side-effect that it feels like you have a cold for about 10 minutes every time you use the stuff but that's a reasonable price to pay.

Do you change your diet before a sportive ? Maybe your eating healthy foods a few weeks before the event and are not getting enough nutrition ?
If you always eat healthy foods anyway then i'm not surprised you get ill alot

A week before a sportive I think 'why on earth did I sign up for this'. Then for the first thirty miles I think 'I should sign up for these more often'. Then at the 70 / 80 mile mark I think 'why on earth did I sign up for this'. Then when I've finished I think 'I should sign up for these more often'.

Just an insight into the thrilling joyride that is my brain. Next up my opinion on Cannonball Run 2...

Nope, not at all.

Five days a week, I eat just enough to turn the pedals round and stay upright. The other two, I fill my boots.
