These seem to spring up all the time and to be honest most of them seem to be someones personal beef with the world and a waste of time but now and then one pops up that hits home .
I've lost count of the amount of times I've gone to my van to get something only to see the back door open or a window smashed ( it must be close to 10 ) Each time stopping me working until i can replace the tools and costing me thousands of pounds every time . How do you pay to replace the tools if you don't have the tools to work with !
Anyway i was made aware of the following petition and thought it was a worth while cause and i hope some of you do too

Why is a petition like this on Change.org rather than the Government page where they are obliged to make some actual response.

Online petitions are very much of the moment... like fast food, speed dating, and the "like" button on a Facebook page about a serious cause. All designed for a short term, immediate feeling of vague accomplishment or gratification, with no real effort or thought required, and yet bringing no lasting effect or real closure.
By all means sign an online petition. Or you could just scratch your arris a bit, it has the same effect.

Why is a petition like this on Change.org rather than the Government page where they are obliged to make some actual response.

I have no idea , i guess it gets to a wider audience this way and gets put forward by the website .

There is a van that I come across on the commute occasionally. It has a printed message on the back door:

The only tools in this vehicle are the driver and his mate

Makes me smile

Aye, it's a palaver unloading each night but I'd rather that than cough up for new tools. I sell tools into the construction trade and have to unload around £7-10k of equipment every night - even at hotels.

Which is pretty much what the Police seem to do with all petty thefts and burglaries nowadays. Maybe if they upheld the law equally without favour, it wouldn't be an issue.

I come from a trades background and no exactly what you have to go through to secure your tools and how much it could cost to replace them, but I couldn't sign a petition for that crime only. If it was for stronger action for thefts as a whole, fair enough. Apologies in advance if I've misunderstood.

I know three businesses around Penrith who have had their entire premises stripped of tools, repeatedly. Always happens in June and coincidentally when a large fair is in progress nearby. Now they, like many others, either employ nightwatchmen for that month or take out all the tools overnight. In the year I've being doing this in Scotland & the North of England, I know of five businesses that have been targeted (usually because I get a call asking if I can help out with replacement tools) and again, there's always been a lot of caravans nearby at the time.

It is, to that extent, organised. Power tools find a ready market in tradesmen willing to pay cash for a "bargain" so the demand exists. The police are fundamentally uninterested because they face a lot of grief if they confront these particular communities who are smarter than them anyway.
