Ooh I Hate Matt Finish Paint!

I have just picked up a Planet X bike frame which is painted in glorious black and red Matt finish! It doesn't look too bad at the moment but it is already starting to get grubby. Finger marks are already showing making it look old and used. Why do people go for these finishes? It has taken years for people to begin to accept the matt finish paint, even F1 were slow to paint their cars that way , which I think looks horrible!
A scratch on gloss paint can be easily repaired if it hasn't gone through to the primer, either a quick polish or a bit of wet or dry and then polish and the scratch is gone. Not that simple with a Matt finish! Ooh look I have a nice shiny patch now! I don't know how small repairs are done as gloss finishes are easily sprayed and blended in by polishing. That can't be done with a Matt finish. I assume that a whole panel would have to be sprayed.
Matt finishes don't have the same impact as brand new glossy paintwork. Dull as old boots comes to mind.
I think my new frame will get the same treatment that my black Carrera Zelos got. A good polish with some Farecla G3 soon had it nice and shiny!

Why? Done properly theyre harder wearing, and the surface is - supposedly - less prone to muck sticking to it.

The finish can be restored post repair by rubbing with 0000 grade wire wool - a very easy way to remove glossy spots.

None of it is difficult if you have the knowledge.

Muck sticks worse than that other stuff does to a blanket.

The finish is so rough!
The way I grade paint finishes is to hear the shine. If you rub a cloth over a good glossy surface it will be silent. Rub a cloth over a Matt surface and it will make a sound.

Matt paint's not waterproof.

I've got a satin black Raleigh Record and it's an utter rust bucket because the rust just erupts out of pristine undamaged paint. My old (gloss) Carlton Continental used to live next to it in the same damp garage, and there wasn't a speck of rust on that, despite it being 10 years older.

I started polishing some bits of my frame and I was sat back looking at it. The colour is black with metallic red contrasting lining and inner stays. The polished red bits were glowing in the light whereas the bits of red which hadn't been polished looked like it was in fog. The difference was very noticeable.
