Finally my employer has decided to participate in the cycle to work scheme, so naturally im all over it like a tramp and chips ,
Iv got a pretty good woodrup steel framed road bike with 105 stuff and it rides very well , and iv also got a flat bar commuter that does the job ( but its not flash at all , truth b told its a heavy beast and not very good
Now do you think i should go for a whizz bang carbon road bike or ( and i think this is the sensible option) a new flat bar hybrid ( such as the boardman hybrid with disc brakes
The flat bar has rack mounting points and looks to b a good bike and it is pretty fast by all accounts, ( for everday use i mean)
Im not really up to speed
If there is any stand out alternatives out there
Any body suggest something , prefer disc brakes

Can you use a range of suppliers or only halfords?

My personal flatbar recommendation is the lovely whyte Cambridge, discs, carbon forks, different to the ubiquitous boardman, specialized, giant, 10kg, takes a rack and mudguards (bontragers fit)

ive found out that i can only use
halfords
or
alpine bikes (iv bought from here before and the guys are really good and know there stuff)
its basically came down to a few models ,theres this at 1000(and the guy said he will do me a deal on shoes and i need a few bits other than that so he would come and go on prices)

the biggest downside i think is it has rim brakes ,but falls bang on the money and looks really great in the flesh and feels very light
or ,pushing the boat out pricewise and id have to pay the difference

disc brakes and finished really well ,but a wee bit heavier and then their is the fact that its dearer ,du think its worth the extra 200 quid

Halfords wont let me spend over the 1000 but alpine bikes will, weird but obv alpine bikes are doing what they can to get the sale whereas halfords arent

I got my cycle2work bike from dales with a halfords voucher

And if you are going for the full grand, then the cube peloton race is the best sub 1k road bike at full price around.
