Hacksaw will also do it.
The bars on my Cannondale MTB were chopped by the shop, they said they do quite a few.

Oh, I see, I was really wondering how a rear hanger could make a wheel slip.Yes, I got the email today.
The rear wheel of mine did slip on the first ride, but I did re-adjust the skewer before I rode it, so i thought it was my fault for not tightening it enough. I tightened it and it didn't slip again and I rode 20 miles with no further problem. They are being super-cautious telling people not to ride them.
It's a shame as it's an 80 mile round trip for me to my closest store.
What may be happening is the hanger is slightly too thick and the skewer can't get as good a grip on the dropout as it should. They'll fit a new hanger and replace the QR skewer. This is a really easy job, if they can post me the parts I'll fit it myself in 5 minutes.
To test, lift the rear wheel off the ground and hit the top of the tyre hard. If it doesn't slip, you'll be OK to ride it to the store, if it does, tighten the skewer a little and then it shouldn't.
Not for a mech hanger I'd have thought. It's not like you're modifying the frame or anything. If you do the repair yourself, will it not invalidate the warranty?
I've no had time to go to the shop: do you think if they change the rear derailleur, like the email suggested, the skewer should still be changed? In the meantime I think I've seen what the problem actually is. The stock skewer just isn't up to the job, it doesn't tighten enough. I just popped on a stock Giant skewer and it tightens up a hell of a lot tighter than the Pinnacle one!
It also fixed the slight rear brake rub I was getting.
Yep, make sure it's good and tight. The one they replace it with should be able to go tighter. Just don't do any sprint startsThanks for that Mike: I'll make an appointment, tighten the skewer before riding the bike the 4 miles to town.
Well, I popped into the store yesterday, explained that I don't have a car, could I please have the hanger to fit myself.Got the new hanger and skewer fitted this week, which has completely sorted the issue. Took them 5 mins in the store.
Me happy again.![]()
