I've got a couple of large gates (solid panels) that bow out a bit when it is windy, so I could do with putting a bar across them just to brace them. So I need some open bar holders to rest the bar in. These seem to be readily available in the US and Canada, but not here in the UK (I've tried Screwfix, B&Q, Wickes etc). Anyone know where I can get hold of some of these in the UK?

Any steel fabrication business close to you will be able to make those.

Failing that, come back to me ...... Part of my business is bespoke steel fabrications, steel tube manipulation, and accurate multi axis tube and pipe bending.

Thanks Gareth - will see what locals can do first!

I had the same problem with a pair of wooden gates blowing through in strong winds.

I thought about a bar arrangement but like you couldn't seem to find the ironmongery that I needed so instead I got some chain and connected it from the gate to the wall. Just with enough slack to allow the gates to close without hinderence but positioned so that it didnt drag on the ground. It works a treat.

I would post a picture of it but my computer has started to play silly buggers and won't let me upload anything.:cursing:

Gareth, could you shorten my bath spout without damaging the chrome finish? It needs the wall plate end removing, the tube cutting shorter then the end refitting.

Please PM me! Thanks.

Hello, been lurking for ages, thought it was time to join... and what better way to kick off than to show off some arcane knowledge!

They're called slip rail brackets here and come open or closed (closed ones have a latch thingy to engage in a notch in the wood and stop the rail slipping out), generally available at farmer-type stores like Countrywide or Scats or whatever.

Or...

Thanks - that's great! I did wonder if it was a terminology thing - couldn't believe that no-one in this country used them.
