It's there, but not sure if they're using it yet. Also looks like they're setting up a massage room?!

Either way they have sorted me out nice & quick for a new bike. They only had one carbon Trek in stock, luckily in my size , though they're adjusting the stem size for me. Hopefully the new bike will prove to be a saver especially for next weekend!

Need to spend a couple of evenings getting accustomed.
Glad to hear it. What did you buy?

Got myself a Trek Madone 3.1. Frame is a good size, but the stem they fitted isn't short enough. Been out for a 53 mile ride today & my neck and back were getting a bit sore towards the end.

I need to bring the saddle. & handlebars cl oser together as I was att he top of my previous frame (54cm), so now on a 56cm I need to be at the bottom end of that. The guy there (Dave?) was brilliantly helpful but he went to the trouble of measuring my inside leg with the lovely castrator but i was wondering if there was a way to measure my reach too (without paying through the nose for it)

Excellent bike. Worth spending a few bob on bike fit- Velocity did mine on the bikefitting.com system, thousands of miles since without issues. Give them a ring Tuesday...

As you bought the bike from them it should be £65 http://www.velocitybikes.co.uk/index.asp?upid=34&msid=5 (unless they've switched completely over to the Trek system, website not updated) - even though you bought the bike without the fitting, I'd have thought they'll be OK with that, it's not like you've left it weeks.
Sadly not. I have just called & spoken to them, because the bike left the shop it'll cost me £100 plus parts though Dave said they could do it for £65 but still plus parts - no real quibble with that but wish I'd have been told at point of purchase about the fitting option.

Be carefully with shortening the stem. Although a good idea, try not to shorten it too drastically.......I made this mistake and the bike now feels a a lot more twitchy than I anticipated, which seems to have taken a lot of confidence away me when cornering

If you need to go much shorter than stock, the bike is likely too big  Or you need to spend a few days on the rack being stretched ;)

We've all been there with bikes that are the wrong size...the trick is to realise before suffering chronic injury!

The OP has a bike bought new from a reputable LBS, it should in theory be in the correct size ballpark, although I think he said it was the last one so may not have compared to a smaller one. I think it may also be going from a sportive to a more a*se in the air race geometry?!

Did they measure arms and shoulders, I think all of that was done when I got the Pearson (although the bars were still too wide).a fit should also assess flexibility, core strength, riding style etc. if the frame is the right size, you should get used to the new position in time, but probably to before Sunday. I was told a solid15 hours of riding to get used two the quite big changes after my bike fit was done. That said, I did lower the saddle a bit as I like to be able to reach the ground in traffic!

Bike fit @livpoksoc is a tricky area, unless experienced, which I am not particularly.

I would agree with Doyleyburger that going too short on the stem will cause geometry/stability issues & with vickster that much shorter than stock would/could suggest a too large frame.

I made a mistake with my old Giant Defy, which, although a great bike was too large & so I didn't ride it much & had to offload for another.

A size 56,58 or even 60 generally is fitted with a 110mm/11cm stem, although manufacturers obviously can differ on this.

I would be inclined not to go any less than 100mm or you will be into MTB territory & the bike will become very flighty.

Shoulder width is important, to get the correct width bar & reach is important too as well as torso to leg length relationship.

Cleat fitting & float is very important as this is where a lot of injuries can be sustained (although the day I understand it, it will rain £50 notes I am sure).

Although not having done it yet, I would invest in a proper bike fit, my back is currently bad enough without a poorly adjusted bike.

The benefits of hindsight....at least you'll be able to sell the removed parts on.
