I've been looking for my first road bike and I've come across an orbea aqua San remo. It's last Years model but is cheaper and of higher spec than the trek and specialised I've initially been looking at. Seems like a good deal but my problem is I've never heard of orbea. I've had a little search but can't find any reviews.
I'm going bike shopping tomorrow afternoon and although it's a good few miles away I'm tempted to go check this orbea out.
Does anybody have any experience with orbea or any views on them. All help greatly appreciated.

Orbea are a Basque bike company, they make the bikes that Euskaltel Euskadi, the basque team, ride.

I wouldn't worry about the name, in my opinion they are just as good as the better know brands like Trek, Specialised etc. and they have a bit of cool about them as they are a little rarer than the big names.

But there's something to be said for buying the bike that fits you the best above all else.

Spanish. Big in Spain and have a good reputation - not widely known in this country.

Review here

Sounds like it's a bit of an entry level offering.

My mountaineering buddy went to Paul Hewitt Cycles for a bike fit and ended up being recommended an Orbea. He is also a former rugby player and has had major surgery on his back but he loves the Orbea and isn't suffering any back pain. Amazing, eh?

I have an Orbea Onix as my best summer bike (currently stored in the loft!), great bikes, I've had no problem with mine and its always good to be different from the crowd. If the bike fits and you like it and the price is right go for it...

My colleague at work has an Orbea and he loves it and i covet it

It would be a shame if it mysteriously disappeared from the bike rack one day

Thanks for the reassuring words. Like I said i'm new to this just and just hadn't heard of them. Got ip this morning and googled orbea and read the wiki page so now I know a bit more about them.
Somebody said it sounded a bit entry level. It may well be but from comparing with the trek and specialised it's defo got better parts ob it. And as I'm only starting out entry level is all I can afford. As long as the frames decent other parts can be upgraded right?

I think I kinda like the fact that they have a bit of cool about them an there not as common as other brands. And after checking the size it seems like it's my size. This shop also has a couple of scotts in the sale. One is last years model and the other is this years but is slightly marked. I'm going to check them all out this afternoon and see I like them and if a deal can be done.

Thanks for the help I'll let you know how I get on

The rumour I heard was that you get almost the same frame with all the carbon Orbeas so yes, you can go on upgrading it as much as you like.

My own Orbea-riding buddy is coming over this afternoon to try out my Ksyrium wheels on his bike as he reckons he's outgrown his entry-level Aksiums.

Thanks for the help guys. Things turned out well and I've got the orbea. Took a few bikes on test rides today and after much deliberating decided on the orbea. Think I got a good deal too. Looking forward to getting out on it now.

I bought the Aqua last may..12 months down the line, still riding it, never had problems, ride is smooth, gears are smooth, best thing I've ever ridden, I'll ride for another 12months, then going to upgrade to full carbon next year and get the Onix...but I doubt I'll switch from Orbea now.

Congrats on your purchase
