peas, runner beans, cauliflower, cabbage, carrots, sweetcorn, courgettes, leeks, strawberries, onions, shallots, tomatoes, blackcurrants, peppers, aubergines, gooseberries, cucumber, rhubarb, spring onions.

Hopefully I will do a lot better this year.

A suggestion for two more, if you can find the space. Chard (the single most useful all-purpose leaf vegetable) and sorrel (superb flavour, and you just can't buy it).

Plus one for chard - the Bright Lights rainbow variety, which comes up with stems in colours including white, red, pink and yellow. Very decorative, and I found it pretty hardy stuff. Stalks are good for stir fry, or braised like celery, leaves are, well, leaves, shred in a stir fry or treat like cabbage/kale.

I saw some in a municipal flower bed in Annecy, it's so decorative.

I've got some polytunnels up at the moment for winter cabbages, kohl rabi, turnips and winter lettuce - they're doing well. I've also got some perpetual spinach, spring onions, onions and garlic that I have overwintered and will harvest in the spring. I've got a couple of 'snips to eat from last year too - still in the soil. After I've applied a good mulch to everything when I've harvested it all my plan is:

Brocolli; carrots; 'snips; runner beans, courgettes; mangetout; some kind of squash (haven't decided) more spring onions, spinach, garlic and onions and I think I'll do strawberries in some window boxes. Not got enough room for spuds...
