They are only waterproof if you actually do them up properly though... I often see people with Ortlieb panniers who have rolled the tops, and then pull the ends upwards... the very same people complain that they are not waterproof and do a really good job of holding the water in the panniers .. (I kid not...):banghead:

Mmm - I often do the rolling of the top and then clip the ends together so that they form another handle... I've never had an issue with them leaking. Should I be doing them up a different way though? Should you clip the ends together before the rolling? had them for years, feel like an idiot now!

if they are not leaking, I wouldn't worry then... but they are designed to be done up as the picture shows... If you are are on the classics or the classic pluses... that is... I think the Ortlieb City does up differently.

I don't think it matters too much when it's just damp, or light rain it's still ok loosely rolled. If it is torrential rain then I stop (get my waterproofs out) and then make sure it's securely rolled over.

I don't dare to move the box. It's been in the same position since unpacking... And so has the cat. .

The same cat who wanted the box before I had even opened the parcel...

I got the black ones... If I decide I need the extra visibility / distraction of bright orange, I can just wrap a high visibility vest around them

And black panniers go better with a black bike :becool:
