Yup, that was Anglia, and Thames was a reflection of Tower Bridge. ATV was three Venn Diagram shapes overlapping, but I can't think what Granada was, there must have been one.

And the BBC and ITV had different clocks. One was round bobbles for the divisions, one was lines. I think the BBC was bobbles, but might be wrong.

Funny how those memories are so ingrained.

Silver statue of a knight on a horse?

Do you remember the countdown clock before schools programs started?

Hell, I'm old enough to remember school assemblies led by radio!

I used to get up early on Saturday mornings to watch the silver knight on his horse. I must have only been 5 or 6

I switched off the telly 6 years ago, and have not watched an as broadcast tv programme since. I have recorded some docs, and cycle based programmes and watched them later though. Like another poster here I use the my television as a DVD monitor. We do watch a lot of DVDs in this house.

I am delighted to say that I have never seen x factor, BGT, or any of the other talent, or celebrity dancingonicedinewithmeoutofhere shows either. I don't know if they are any good or not, they may be excellent, I'll never know, and I really don't care.

Our caretaker at work had analogue right up to the final switch off a couple of weeks back. He said they watched up to midnight, and then it just went.....

black.

He said it was odd and a bit sad. But he's not bothered to get digital. His daughter did apparently say, a few days later, "Daddy, maybe they've left one channel on?" But they haven't...

It is, isn't it?

I remember a few years ago, radio 4 went off for some minutes, replaced with an automatic tape of music, it was quite freaky. Especially given the rumour (urban myth?) that nuclear sub commanders monitor R4 to see if Britain still exists....

I remember getting our first TV delivered, we were one of only two in the street (Of 70+ houses.) The Rediffusion man came a few years later and added a gizmo for us to get the second TV channel, ITV. We now have several hundred channels on Digital TV, thousands more through Broadband and still there's beggar all that I want to watch on most of the time.Don't get me wrong, I like some programmes, but by no means all.

As to the OP's comments about modern 'Reality' TV... Don't get me started. Total tosh, but if it keeps people happy fine and well, so long as I don't have to sit through it. My idea of hell is getting too old to live at home and being parked in a room of other feeble bodies codgers* with this drivel pouring out of the TV all day. Hand me the cyanide long before that day... PLEASE!!!:banghead:

No TV, just my laptops. I can't see the point of paying for a licence when i can get a whole lot more choice on the internet.
