My Skoda cost £150. I've had it eight months and spent nothing on it.

Got to tax it tomorrow - it'll cost more than the cars worth:biggrin:

That looks a sweet Favvy estate,i had a few of them in the past, the last was in bright green N plate, great load lugger especially when the rear seats are folded down and cheap, cheap to run.

Talking about expensive tyres, last time I bought a set for my speedskates that was also £70. Well, they were wheels, there is no separate wheel/tyre on speedskates.

I find it costs very little to keep a car running when you do the work yourself. I have also gathered up a lot of spare parts for my car over the years (mostly for free). I have a complete spare suspension, engine and gearbox and assorted body panels (all free and stripped of a crashed car a mate was sending to the crusher). The same car also donated 4 perfectly good tyres. ;)

Yes, it's great when you've got a garage full of spare bits. I had loads of 2CV bits when I last had one and I gave away or sold most of them when I stopped driving 2CVs. Now I've got another one I'm having to find bits where I can (cheers, Bonk Man) or <shudder> buy new bits until I've built up a stock of spares again.

Now that's the sort of money I'd be willing to spend on tyres for most of my old cars; Mazda 323, 'cento sporting, etc... but to spend that kind of money on tyres for a twitchy at the best of times sports car or a car with a enough torque & chassis to keep up with a Porsche 993 (911) Turbo on the twisty stuff you're talking ditch finder territory.

Oh, I wouldn't advocate skimping on tyres for anything remotely high performance. The tyres for my dad's Carrera 4S cost roughly what my entire car cost, each, but they're worth every penny.

I was into collecting old cars and filling every space i could find with spares but it got to the point where i thought whats the point ? Cars are expensive, driving is a major chore (un-less you drive on the other side of the Channel) basically no fun at all ! Sold the lot, kept a sensible family car that requires little messing with, filled the space in the garage that had my pride and joy full of "stuff" bikes and a desk with chair and nice heater.....my new escape pad from the kids...until they want their Barbie bikes LOL

Porsche, like Lotus & most other mid-engined car manufactures, have a special requirement for tyres due to the less than conventional weight distribution of their cars & this makes the tyres more expensive. However they generally are worth every penny, even on lesser cars getting good tyres can make a huge difference to the braking, especial in the wet, & they don't have to cost huge amounts either.
