Anybody watched it tonight? I was amazed when Guy Martin said the Chinese built a 500 miles long railway line for a 200 mph train in ........2 years!! :okay:
In the UK, the 140 miles railway lines for the "high-speed" 135mph train is going to take.......9 years!!
Who's got it right then? Chapeau to the Chinese.:notworthy:

Missed it, but will try on catchup tomorrow. Not sure about the comparison though, a few other differences need to be taken into account.

How many will
A) die on the project
B) die of a chronic illness caused by project.

So yes chapeau if speed at cost of life is your thing

No mentions were made of anyone dying on the project. We are talking about modern China here, not Mao's China so I assume working conditions have greatly improved.

The programme last week highlighted the loss of life on a massive dam building project, strangely his government minders didn't think there was any....

Sadly they haven't . And that's based on reported figures only .not the hidden ones .

Still it's only Chinese labour so that don't matter does it ...

Also, China has empty spaces.
Most of the UK, if you want to put something there, the thing that's already there needs to go somewhere else.
Having said that, the new airport at Hong Kong was designed at the same time at Heathrow Terminal 5, and opened years earlier.
espite the fact they built a whole new island for it to go on!

Thoroughly enjoyed it and had me laughing several times especially when he put Tiananmen Square into the search engine and got an immediate knock on the door.
