I want a Newfoundland. I see one on my commute every now and again, and I'm completely in love with them.
Not really possible with working full time though. When I retire.

Well as the owner of the beige/white ones decided to give the one we'd reserved to someone else, we had to look for another. Poppy comes from a smaller mum (a pet cocker, rather than a show one) so she should end up a bit smaller which is good. So far she's being brilliant but I'm now on my own for a week and have a real desire to go out on the bike but not too sure how long I should leave her. She's in the other room with radio 4 which she already seems to like, so doesn't appear to have to be with me the whole time, but it's still a bit nerve-wracking leaving her initially.

How does she get on with the older dog? I have never had a dog. Do they have to learn that they may be left on their own, but you will be coming back?

I have two cats, correction, two cats have me.

Older dog is ignoring Poppy, and she is ignoring her back. I think they will tolerate each other and that's about it.

With regard to leaving them, you have to do it quite carefully so they don't get anxious. I left quietly out of the back door earlier and cycled to the pet shop (for a few supplies), then came quietly in the back door again. I was out for about an hour and a half; Poppy was asleep when I got back. Hopefully she'll be fine being left on her own (both our previous dogs haven't minded a bit), but one has to take it slowly. She has Radio 4 to listen to.

Just don't go out at midday, and make the poor thing listen to You and Yours....

Almost unbearably cute....

She's currently enjoying The Archers. I went out to walk the other dog and Poppy is still chilled out in her crate so I haven't yet let her out. She did listen to You & Yours at lunchtime, and The Food Programme this afternoon.
