Yesterday and I said a very cheery hello to people riding all sorts of bikes, a lot being hybrids. The only people that said hello back was roadies, what a miserable lot the hybrid and MTB riders were.

You were probably riding your roadie though?
They expect roadies not to say hello,or feel inferior in some way to the elite (in their eyes) wiggins type figure coming the other way.
I wouldn't worry about it,and continue to say hello.

I say hello to everyone. There is only 1 person that doesn't every reply, but I still say hello to him. Cycling is my happy time of the day.

If I say hello first, the problem is resolved. I leave the grumpy buggers to themselves and not let it ruin my ride..
+1 - although I usually also mutter something about "ignorant bugger" or the like!

PS. For those of you from London - seeing a cyclist is still quite rare where I am - probably see 10 on my 30 mile commute. I can understand why you wouldn't want to do a "nodding dog" impression on your commute in!

I was chuffed when an older chap on a road bike said a cheerful good morning to me whilst I was bimbling along on my hybrid (wondering if I was in the right place) in Cheadle in Manchester at the weekend. I did say hello back, but as he was travelling considerably quicker than me I have no idea if he heard. He was the only person of about 23489762387587 blokes on swanky road bikes who acknowledged me though.
