As a national forum, my question may remain unanswered but I wonder if there is such a thing as Coast to Coast or other long tours solely for third age cyclists?

Who would want to ride just with other tedious old farts?

I get the impression it was a very poor attempt at a joke

I thought it was quite good, actually. An equal dose of irony and self-deprecation.

Which only works if your intended audience is in on the joke, which it would appear that neither @gavroche or I were, we are not to know that @Ian H is a wrinkly.

I'm with others here. Just go on your own. I did the Way of The Roses on my Brompton in july. No planning, cheap rail fares (using my old git's rail card). Booked the accommodation as i went along using Booking.com

I enjoy this form of touring much more than some organised trip.
I would agree with you, on reflection, it would be better on my own. I always ride on my own anyway .

I am in my early 50s. This year, I did two organised group tours.
In July, I cycled in Russia with mainly a group of Americans. There were few Russians too. I was the youngest of the group. The average age was about 65, and there were two Russian guys in late 70s.
In September, I cycled part of the Route 66 with Bicycle Adventure Club, USA based club. Their average age is 63 and the oldest guy was 74 years old.
During my solo tour of Baltics in May, I met couple of cyclists from Germany. They were over 60.
My experience is that most touring cyclists in Europe and USA are over 60.

how old are you anyway?

I'm thinking of doing the coast to coast next year, plus a ride down to Essex, (I'll be 55) and I'm also in North Wales
