This fresh in from my sis...

On the radio today - overkeen apprentices.

One such was sent along with his plumbing mentor to a job on a council estate, a high rise, where the tenants had complained about all the toilets backing up causing mess and a horrible smell.

After some investigation, it was seen on an underground pipework investigation that a rock had broken through and got itself lodged into where the main outflow pipe had carried away the waste.

Overkeen apprentice jumped in the hole to remove the rock. Before the plumbing mentor had time to shout "Don't do it", the apprentice had rolled the rock away from the broken pipe.

And, from the radio it went - Can you remember that film with James Dean where they finally struck oil and there was much whooping and cheering as the oil gushed into the air..............well, it was like that but without the cheering.

xx( Who'd be a plumber eh?! A bloke i know gave it up years ago to run a cafe. Sh!t house mechanic was his self appointed title.

Aah, the 'joys' of sewage systems. Specifically ships vacuum systems (similar to the flush you get on an aircraft). The chance for the bowl contents to be sucked up pipes when being flushed. Small bore pipework. The lack of any vacuum in the system at all due to someone trying to flush something that hasn't been in their mouth first and getting most of the way through the system, most, but not quite all the way. The only access to that particular pipe is always above your head.

Fortunately I now occupy a senior position which means I can get someone else to do it.
