It happened, i got overtaken by an another cyclist this morning

fair and square as well, i was going up a slight incline at about 25mph and he pulled out and accelarated past me! Bastard was on a very nice looking bike with tri-bars - so im sure it was all the bike and not really my fault

I nearly died trying to keep up although did set a new personal world record time to work

Don't worry about it mate, it happens to us all at times. Best to just blank out the memory!

Happens to me all the time Robz400.

In my defence, being 46 and just taking cycling up again after 20 years off.

Yesterday I was just taking it easy and another commuter passed me. I thought "not having that" so I upped my have to catch and eventually overtake.
"Morning" I said as I passed him, then slowed down as it was a colleague. He said he had recognised me and saw I was taking it easy and had wanted to actually overtake somebody else for a change .

It's a bugger isn't it! Doesn't happen often, and I can almost always post-rationalise my way out of it - well, I just wouldn't do anything that stupid/dangerous/illegal - but every now and then it's just a straight mano a mano, no tricks, nothing up anyone's sleeve, and you just...plain...lose. Like dom says, happens to the best of us. (And not all of us would go out of our way to post it, so brownie points for that!) No harm done. Have a nice ride home.

Yeah it's a bugger when that happens. It's only happened to me a about 5 times. That's just today, mind!

I wasn't going to mention this, but I actually got beaten fair and square for pace by some jumped up berk on a slicked up MTB/Hybrid thing when I was pelting along on my fixie road bike a couple of weeks back!:blush: There was simply nothing I could do to rectify it, there was not much in it but he was simply faster than me!

Coming into Edinburgh last week, I could see a cyclist ahead. It took me 3 miles to catch him, draft him for 100m and then overtake. Having worked hard to take him, he then put on a spurt and we had the next mile of duelling bikes, with each of us overtaking and then being overtaken. I was knackered!!

I'm lucky if I see anyone to overtake! Can go weeks without seeing anybody on my side of the road. The last person I passed was a woman about 4 weeks ago, was hanging back for a while to admire the view:biggrin: and then passed her on an incline.

When I was commuting on my old roadie a couple of years ago, I used to see a guy regularly commuting on another roadie to Evesham (with huuuuge thighs I'll hasten to add). I was riding along the bypass looked over my shoulder and saw him about 100 yards behind me, by the time I'd covered about 1/4 mile, he had caught me up ;)

He did look bloody fit though (and about 15 years younger)

Had a huge grin on my face when I blew past four young lads on carbon rides shortly after they'd overtaken me on a steep descent during the Autumn Epic last Sunday.

The road entered a small valley and went from an 8% drop into an 8% climb in about 30 yards. The youngsters all immediately grabbed the small ring when they saw the steepness of the climb and coasted to about 10mph before grinding away - yours truly, in contrast and carrying at least a 2stone (dis?)advantage rocketed past at 22mph. The youngest (and slimmest) was heard to exclaim "How the ****.....?" as this Welsh Cob powered past him.

"Momentum, dear boy. Do try and keep it." ;)
