it's tricky on the commute because lights break things up so much

but yeah,I like to catch up and pass other riders,and get after anyone that passes me, it's a pisser though when someone else jumps the reds, you can't compete with that

Last night at three different sets of lights, I stopped and then had a following car blast through the red light, not late, plain straight through a solid red

This morning as I was looking down trying to investigate where this unsual sound was coming from some chap caught me out and went for it. I was having none of it and 300 metres later normal order was resumed. As much as I try sometimes I just cannot resist the chase.

I like beating those that jump lights/use pavements, anything to get in front. Only to be overtaken a bit further up the road.

Its not just the overtaking that important, but the style of the overtake. Fiddling with something in your back pack as you effortless glide past (hoping that you can keep the pace up for the next 30 secs to drop them) is a good one.

I hate it people overtake while I'm stopped at a red light only to stop themselves a few meters in front of me.

I then have to make a point of geetting past them as soon as possible.

A friend of mine (Dave Couch Cheshire Roads) was riding a 100 on Blyth in the 70's when he was having a bad patch on the Blyth by-pass and some local kids took the piss by racing him...

If they got him a good day no chance as he was ace rider (used to win junior events on Cheshire).

I was 'taken last night in lanes and semi dark - guy came past said 'hi' - I nearly fell off in shock. Hardly ever see anyone else. Bust a gut trying to hold him but had pannier on and he was on stripped iron. So tonight........

I know, used to piss me off, but now i just see them as prats who are dicing with death. Saw one nearly get wipped out last night and he didnt even notice. Now i just cycle past them again and again, and again.

ps kinda given up using the old camera for now, although wish i had it last night as was in primary last night, double decker bus behind beeps at me to get out the way! (he is right behind me), so move over slightly then on his 3/4 part of overtake he indicates and pulls in just ahead of me to stop!! pointless, dangerous driving again, forced me to twice nearly hit him, once with bike, other with fist lol

I passed an 80 year old lady with her shopping and the kitchen sink on the back of here 1940's tourer down a country lane yesterday just as she was getting off to push! does that count?

I dont have many opportnities to overtake or even be overtaken as its 99% country lanes to and from work but i am looking forward to some sunner days when i can get out at weekends and try my hand at overtaking a few weasels.

Yes! I forgot about that. The best one is to <wishful-thinking>overtake freewheeling at well over 30 mph, slow down for speed camera and then be off again</wishful-thinking>
In reality, looking like you're not about to pass out is good enough for me.

It may well be, it's still surprising just how many people secretly race either themselves or other cyclists.

used to be a young guy who'd join the local cycle club Sunday run about mid way round .
H'ed be completely dishevelled often in a dirty T shirt and shorts ,obviously hungover and always on his Mother's shopping bike .
The barsteward would spend the rest of the ride half-wheeling everyone and frequently sprinting off on hills dropping everyone.!

Never did find out who he was.... probably an elite racer

Many years back, when I was young and fit, I did a triathlon.....I was overtaken by bloke on a butchers bike wearing a balclava (under his helmet) jogging bottoms and a T-shirt and a pair of plimsoles. Actually, overtaken would be an understatment. Once back at the finish, the rumour spread that he was an Elite triathlete in disguise messing about snf training for the Olympics....

Back in the summer I picked my (then) 2 1/2 year old up from nursery on the heavy MTB - the one that the child seat fits on. Heading up a slight hill I passed a guy on a nice looking slicked out MTB, all the gear etc. At the bottom of the hill he re-took me on the junction with a look of grim determination visible through his mirrored glasses. Race on! As I passed him the second time, on the flat, my daughter blew a raspberry; that was enough motivation for me to crank it up and leave him. Now my daughter wants me to ride everywhere as fast as I went home that day (Max speed 34 Mph).
