The cupboard where we store our ceraels has gone through a bit of a change in the last 6 months . All the big names have gone and have been replaced by one brand of cereal .

We find these taste better and are certainly better value, and as you can see they offer a good variety.

I reckon they are all made by the same factory. Weetabix definatley are. Who's going to spend money on a factory to produce shreddies just for Aldi?

I'd by all own brand but SHMBO will only have real weetabix and shreddedwheat. As Aldi sell shreddedwheat we're okay there. And she's OK will all their others.

Is this the same argument as the one that says that all carbon bike frames are made in the same factory so they must all be the same? Factories can be set up to make several different things at once you know. Same factory, different ingredients, different recipes and crucially, different quality control procedures.

There are big brands I trust because I know how good they are on their QC. When it comes to quality testing, some of the big brands have their own SOPs and send round their own inspectors whereas the smaller brands will just let the labs get on with it. So that's where at least some of your money is going.

ETA: forgot to say, spending more money quite possibly leads to better pay and conditions for those further down the distribution chain, farmers etc.

Of course in France they only eat cereal at 8 o'clock. A meal they call à huit heures bix

I broke a tooth on a tesco organic cornflake. £800 dental bill. The savings vs Kellogg's would need to be substantial

That said I much prefer tesco porridge oats vs the reformulated pricey Quakers

as for Baked Beans...HEINZ only im affraid..nothing else comes close
Until recently I would have agreed, but then they messed with the recipe and the sauce is now a pale watery imitation of the original. It's Branston beans for me these days; give them a try!
As for cereal, I gave them all up years ago when they became p!ss takingly expensive. Porridge man now. Apart from when my halo slips and I need a fix of Cinnamon Toast Crunch/Cinnamon Grahams/Curiously Cinnamon or whatever they are called this month - and ONLY Nestlé will do.

Have you tried the Aldi own brand Weetabix? I can be atrociously snobby about own brand vs branded and I am also widely regarded as one of the countries foremost Weetabix connoisseurs but I have to say that I have switched to the Aldi own brand Weetabix, there really is no difference.

Tescos 'Everyday Value' porridge for me.:okay:
I find that expensive brands are too refined, I prefer the rougher stuff.
