years ago Terry Wogan had a section of Heroic Own Goals on his Auntie's bloomers show... that had some corkers.

Changing sports, a few years ago I was refereeing a basketball game. The match started with a tip-off, and one player got the ball, ran to the basket and scored an easy lay-up, not realising he'd gone the wrong way! Cue lots of laughter and shame for the poor kid. Incredibly, when we started the second half exactly the same thing happened, but this time it was the other team!
