Strictly speaking one HP (the energy required to lift a 1lb weight 50 feet in one second, or a 50lb weight 1 foot in 1 second) bears no relation to the amount of grunt the typical horse can churn out.

I made a pony and trap (this is not cockney rhyming slang) error earlier this year. I'd overtaken it but had misjudged where my left turn was and had to take it only a couple of metres in front. Suddenly appearing in front of the pony and veering across its path made it panic. Oops!

How much does it cost to Oldham?

No smut or innuendo?

Disappointed.

Pedantry fail, energy is the product of power and time.
Pedantry double fail.

The energy of an object, or of a system, is how much work the object or system can do on some other object or system.

In other words, energy measures the capability of an object or system to do work on another system or object.
