I have holidays to take in early June. One idea was to head over to Holland with bike and do a tour. However, a quick check on the ferry price has put a stop to that. One passenger, one bike, return. Leaving 2nd June, returning 9th June. £430 (Fare is about £100 each way, plus compulsory cabin at £98 each way, then they have the cheek to charge a £32 environmental charge on top of all that). Just stupid.

The days of the cheap Dutch Dash from Hull are long gone

Alternative DFDS Newcastle to Holland, can't quite fathem their website, though possible discounts for over 60 as well...

Just done a dummy booking and got to £170 for Harwich to Hook of Holland. Day time, no cabin needed, environmental charge is not extra but within the ticket price.

Poole is too far away. We're then getting into "fly somewhere" territory, which I was trying to avoid. Or stick with Blighty, which is looking most likely.

Sorry I ment that it's only across the north sea!

Had it been a mini cruise to Bilbao then I would have been less surprised!

If you're touring, the overnight cabin is instead of a hotel. I don't think that's particularly expensive, personally.

For ferry prices that make your nose bleed try the Isle of Man. Ask me how I know lol.

I go to the Netherlands every May half term with my bike. This will be my last year though as I have paid £780 for 2 of us + bikes (no car) and can’t justify the expense any more. As I recall, our first trip with a North Sea crossing (paid for in 2019 and finally taken in 2021) cost around £400.
I’m sad about this as we are doing half the Zuiderzee route this year and want to return next year to complete the top half!

Blimey, and I thought Brittany ferries was expensive.

IIRC, my first Plymouth-Roscoff return as foot passenger (1995) was about £24, and I was outraged when they doubled the price a couple of years later. I can't remember what I paid for Poole-St Malo with a bike in August 2012, with cabin, but I'm sure it was under £100, as I'm a tightwad. I think the bike was probably free, but not sure.
