Today PunkyP and I went with 3 friends down to Southport from Preston. We stupidly kept riding on the cycle path through a load of hawthorn clippings, scattered here and there. oh, and the odd bit of glass.
The damage:
Punky - one, plus a single thorn which she managed to remove.
Roger - three. Plus two the day before.
Laura - started with one, then another one a couple of miles later.
Justine - (on her Dahon folder) - a single thorn successfully yanked out.
me - three, but all removed and healed by a slime tube.

That makes 8 repairs and 5 near misses. All in the space of a weekend!

Once out on the mountain bike after t'lovely farmers had strewn hawthorn cuttings over most of the bridal paths, couple of miles from home had to give up as very tyres flat, when I got home 'seven' sepearate punctures! RUBBISH mtb tyres!

I am not 100% sure on the rules but thats 8 divided by 5 people thats only 1.6 inner tube related 'tragedies' per person....

Last weekend I broke a valve after checking the pressure before a ride.... changed to the spare that came with the new bike and posing/saddle pouch which had a weird scabby bit on it... I bought a spare from Halfrauds (forgive me it was easter weekend)... scabby rubber lasted about 15 miles and the new tube that was in box was the wrong one :ohmy::smile::biggrin:... swapped tube for right one yesterday after a weeks drving!!

Can you tell I am still bitter??

Hmmmmm. Roger's inner tube was fitted on Saturday morning. Also Halfords!

But considering that all 8 punctures got fixed by 2 people, surely that makes it 4 each?

Talking about which, mine has got one of those glueless sticky patches on, I heard somewhere they have a tendancy to fall off after a couple of days - is this true? Am I best of ripping the patch off and doing it properly or shall I leave it and see if it lasts (and how long)?

Judge Judy I am not PP there needs to be some sort of committee to decide this sort of thing.;)

With me, if ever I am unsure about a tube repair or any bit of kit for that matter I will double check it/fix it in the comfort of my own home before going out to ride.

On the Norwich Century a couple of years ago, I end up with 6 unplanned deflation events (UDEs) in 43 miles; 2 in the front and 4 in the rear, all the UDEs were caused by different issues.

The front/rear UDE balance can’t be anything to do with extra weight the rear tyre carries.
