Padders slippers are not cheap. £30 upwards if you buy direct.
As I want comfort and quality I was relatively happy to pay because, as a retired guy, they are regularly worn.
So.....I got 4 years out of them which is good......SO FAR.
October just gone they were being sold in
T J Hughes for less than £20 so I bought a pair.
By end of December the insoles had, literally, fallen apart.
I had no receipt so contacted Padders direct....thinking, if I give the code they would help.
I gave the story and was told...........
They are cheap because we manufacture** them to TJs specification.
My reply was.......Im not accepting that!! They are labeled and stamped "padders". They are in a Padders box. There is nothing to suggest they are "made for TJ Hughes by Padders.
After several phone calls and emails I told them I thought they were breaking trading standards laws as there was absolutely no way Joe Public would know they were a lower spec'.
They then backed down and sent me a new pair of their own slippers.
**if you google "where are Padders slippers made"?......they boast about their British factory. What they dont tell you is thats only for shoes. The slippers are made in China.

TJ Hughes and TK Maxx specialise in new with tags old stock that more often than not has been returned from own brand stores and then repaired by trained technicians in a logistics hub before going back out to Hughes and Maxx.

These shops then buy in bulk at a discounted price as the own brand shop doesn’t wasn’t them. If the return means they can’t be sold again the stock is usually shredded.

Some big name outdoor brands do the same for Sports Direct - they make cheap branded walking boots/shoes which are a far lower spec' than their 'own' boots/shoes.

I told them "you should be ashamed to put your established and respected name to such shabby products".

I always used to wear cheap slippers, but I bought a pair of Hotters several years ago and they seem impossible to wear out, when they do I thought I would try some of these.

So you bought a pair of sheet slippers, and they've replaced them with an identical pair of sheet slippers?
You are not LISTENING to wot I typed.
The slippers sold thro TJs are a lesser spec and are sheet.
The ones they sent me are the higher spec, better quality.

You can't beat the old maxim about buying goods substantially cheaper than you know they should be, if it sounds too good to be true.......

Don't many big brands do this, i.e. manufacture different quality products for different markets? In some case, they don't even manufacture themselves, they just licence their name.

Designers like Armani only really design a small selection of products that are sold in boutique shops of the world's major cities. All the other Armani stuff is just him allowing someone to use his name.

Back in the day I was a Levi guy, never wore Lee Cooper or Wranglers, they had to be Levi's, I would wear them until they could walk across the room by them selves before allowing my mother anywhere near them. They would last 2-3 years if not more, roll on to when the kids were born & I couldn't afford Levi's so any cheap make would do, roll on further & they have left home, well one has the other has come back but that's an aside.

We're up in York at that new fangled 'Designer A19 Outlet" or whatever it's been branded this year, where they claim there is 60% EVERYTHING! There's a Levi shop 2 pairs for £90, 90 sodding quid! I nearly died, but was convinced by the better half they were a bargain & I should get 2 pairs.

They were duly bought, what a con, both pairs worn out inside 12 months of normal use, as soon as I put them on I knew the quality wasn't there, as said the old ones were never off, worked in them, at the time digging trenches, going down man holes, up telephone poles, working on the car, riding the motorbike. the new ones were worn sitting at a desk pushing keys on a keyboard. I shall NOT be buying anymore.

There were stories in the media a few years ago that many designer brands manufacture goods specifically for all these "Designer Outlet" stores around the country.

Mr Ashley owns most of the brand names he sells, clever business but not nice business.
