Spraying? Ha ha! Good idea but most of it would end up on the floor and walls!

Damp cloth will be OK on two coats of paint.

Well i will swap you for relaying my patio, builder was a right cowboy and each block has blobs of cement a good 6 inches + underneath so it is a major job to reseat each one perfectly .

No, you drill large 'oles vertically down into the stumps and the new posts socket into them. Obviously you have to get the hole the right size but it's not too hard to do. I used PVA to glue the posts in and it is very strong indeed. In fact you shouldn't need to use nails anywhere!
