June, my cousin and I are taking a C2C Spanish trip, we'll be carrying 2 bikes (in boxes) from Shipley to Leeds via the train and then onto Manchester airport. I am looking for something simple and light to carry and hold 2 x 20L panniers and check in as one piece of airline luggage. I've been to camping stores and the Gelert stuffsacks look just the job, they are basically a cheap top drawstring cyclindrical bag, but even the XL is too small. Any ideas?

Somewhere in most airports there is a stall that will clingfilm wrap your panniers together, for myself I place then back to back and strap them together, and tie the handles together so they become one piece of luggage.

Or take a roll of clingfilm and wrap them yourself!!
How about a plastic bag - like a drawstring bin liner?
Costs sod-all and weighs next-to-nothing.

Two options.
Get a rucksack stuff sack, it's basically a holdall for rucksacks on planes, they are usually about 100 Litres in size and cost less than a tenner.
otherwise as others have suggested take a roll of cling film with you to the airport.

Thanks, but prior to the airport, my cousin and I have to carry two bikes in cardboard boxes, one pair of hands at each end. To Shipley station, to Leeds station and up escalators and down stairs, then to Manchester airport. Really, the luggage has secure and on our shoulders (or backs) already.

Yes it is, similar to what "Upsidedown" recommended. I have one that I use on my motorbike, it's just too small and the next size up will add weight that I don't want unfortunately. I use one of these bags instead of panniers on short tours of the Dales, they are superb bits of kit.

Thanks, I was going to go for one of these, there is one in Go Outdoors for £8, we'd need 2.

But, I had brainstorn, it followed on from yesterdays taking down of the Xmas decorations. I bought a polypropolene, cylindrical, zipped Xmas tree storage bag, £8.99. At 4' long it should take all 4 panniers and bits and bobs and I need one anyway. But then I spotted something better  and bought 2 Ikea zipped bags, 76L and will carry 25kg, £4 each and just the job!

Many thanks for all the replies.

Hi for my spain back to UK tour via Girona airport I used one of these Ikea bags.. you get them for £1 each from Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/IKEA-BLUE-LARGE-SHOPPING-BAGS/dp/B002NS8JA0

or cheaper from Ikea. Managed to fit 3 panniers in one and secured it with a bunjee where it was checked in without problem. I took the other pannier on the plane with clothes book etc. Binned the bag at the other end.

edit just read your last post ref the zipped Ikea bags ^_^

(I can only assure you that if they are of the same material as the one in the photo they will do the job)

I used a big blue (open top) ikea bag as above, for a train & ferry trip. For taking the panniers and tent to and from my train seat and to and from the ferry cabin, it was terrific.
