The best stuff to use to de-grease on a bike is an aerosol of car brake cleaner.

It'll dissolve any grease or oil at the same time washing any grit away with it. And then it evaporates away.

Quick, clean with the least mess.

Here's the old derailleur it was coated with years of grime and chain lube.Please ignore the jockey wheels they'll be replaced and the mech polished when it's ready to go back together. (Other thread taking the plunge.powder coating).
