Sounds dodgy to me. Someone wanting directions in a supermarket car park with people walking around everywhere decides the best person to ask is someone already in a car and driving away? When they could stop plenty of people walking past, or go inside and ask one of the staff?

You did the right thing. Your instincts have been evolving for billions of years longer than your rational brain - trust them.

That is the sort of sequence of events that I would notice. I think you did the right thing. Lock the car doors, and ignore them.

If they were genuinely trying to ask for directions, it sounds like there were plenty of people around to ask. Yes, I also agree, it is unlikely that men would ask for directions.
