Stock up.

(slight derail, but it looks like you have your answer so ...)

I broke my clavicle a couple of years ago, and it never healed. It causes me zero problems (which is why I haven't bothered with getting the surgery - except I can't do cobblestones. It makes it ache, and that's just a few that you find on car-free routes in London. I assume it's the rough end of the bone bang repeatedly into my flesh. Paris-Roubaix is a horror show to me.

Just take a mallet to your wheels for a continuous Roubaix experience anywhere.

And I could take the mallet to my shoulder to reproduce my experience

I was thinking about this while watching P-R on Sunday. Should I pop over to France and do a ride that takes in a sector or two of cobbles, just to see what it's like.

Then I watched a bit more and thought ... what a stupid idea.

Just a desire to see how tough it must be. I only want to try a few hundred metres of it!
I lived on a cobbled street in Hebden Bridge, which was off another cobbled street. How does it feel riding on cobbles ...? Let me put it this way - even after cycling 100+ miles, I often used to ride up a 20% hill to get home, avoiding the cobbles!

It did give me a lot of respect for what the pros do in races with cobbled road sections.

I doubt if anyone actually enjoys riding on cobbles. Pros do it because they are paid to - I doubt if they'd do it for fun.
