You still need that space to access the carriageway from your drive.

Is there not a law against blocking a dropped kerb?

I'm fortunate to have 2-3 driveway spaces for our 2 cars. However next door has 4+ cars and only 1 space.

They're getting increasingly cross with someone taking an on-street space when he lives on the next street, just so the housing association and benefits agency don't find out he's living with his girlfriend.

Luckily for him they're pacifists and won't do anything about it. Unluckily I'm not ...

So, people like me should be banned from parking in the street I live in, in order to free up space for people like Drago to park in. Strangely I don't find that a compelling idea.

I don't park in the street, so would never want anyone to make way for me or anyone else. I have never bought or rented a property where I couldn't keep my car or motorbike off the road. It was one of the essential criteria. Aside from the security considerations, I think its bad enough to inflict road vehicles on society when they're in use, but to do so for the 23 hours a day they stand idle is highly antisocial.

This idea people have that they must have a car regardless of such considerations speaks of a culture of self entitlement and thoughtlessness, one that's strangling our society and killing our planet.

luckily for me I've got my own off road parking. Granted its not by my house but 2 minutes down the road kindly offered by a good neighbour. I'd sooner park it a short walk away, knowing its safe away from passing drunks on a Saturday night and other road users trying to wedge the cars into any available small gaps. My work involves traveling, so I'm somewhat stuck with having to have a car but if my job was somewhat closer, I would ditch it tomorrow.

Not at all, but those who park their cars off road should get a 90% rebate on their road tax...................oh no, wait a minute:sad:.

It's the idiots that stick 2 wheels on the pavement that get me, once 1 numpty does it everyone else seems to copy them. Good job I don't have a car.

The grass verges in this village are now just mud, horrible looking mess. There used to be restriction in place to prevent this, they may have been dropped, or of course nobody enforces them.

Parking the wrong way around on dark streets at night, that one gets me angry, even more so if they have just pulled over and are sitting in the car with the lights on.

My street can be infuriating, I can't decide whether most of the residents can't park or simply have no common sense/common courtesy to be able to park so as to maximise the number of cars that can park in the street.
Pulling in to a space big enough for 2 cars then reversing bang into the middle off it rather than up to the car in front or the car behind rendering each gap too small for another car!
The worst thing is they get out and look at the front and back then walk off pleased with themselves like they've done a good job!
I've been known to actually go out to our 1 car and move it if the parking situation has changed so as to allow a sufficient gap for another car.

Some people will deliberately take two spaces to keep anyone from parking too close to their pride and joy.

Our village was built before the car had been conceived of. There are three garages and I’m lucky to own one of them. Every house has at least two cars, there is an unwritten rule that one doesn’t park outside someone else’s house - works well. However the way the village is laid out means parking is tricky for second cars. Residents respect the issue and deal with it. Visitors tend to be less considerate especially parents delivering their kids to school. It reached a peak when the school had to issue a request to parents not to park within 500 yards of the school gates - three issues, child safety, blocking residents and gridlock on the only access road!!

Fortunately the location of our house means little of this impacts me except two things. There is a blind bend leading out of the village and parents on the school run park on this forcing drivers fully on to the wrong side. The second one is my garage which stands alone and about 500 yards from my house. People park outside it and go walking or fishing!!!! When I challenge this the usual response is “oh I didn’t think anyone used it” - that’s deliberate on my part to aid security!!!!:laugh:

I think there is. That reminds me: what about people who park in their driveway but do not have a dropped kerb? I often have a freakish fantasy to see what would happen

I think with today's large tire cars, you don't always need a dropped kerb?

I don't want to hijack this thread but just want to point out when I park my bike on a street locked to a lamppost, people hate it! I come back to my bike and see a notice suggesting I should move my bike due to it causing obstruction (what about the lampposts, trees, shop billboards, parking meters, and most of all, other cars parked on the sidewalk, signage telling car drivers where and when they can park!)).

It's like they specifically want my bike off the sidewalk, but don't mind all these other infractions. I DO agree that my bike is causing a slight obstruction but not when compared to all the other car causing an obstruction).

These assumptions from other people are a right annoyance. Paint a dukes of hazard decal along the side and tell them "I thought you might like it". Tossers.
