Us cycling type wouldn't really see the appeal. To the vast majority of users I'd imagine that it's not a bike to get fit and enjoy cycling on, but rather a cheap mode of transport without the hassles of insurance, VED, MOT, fuel, CBT/license etc.

Yes - for me the "appeal" is that it's cheaper to run than a car. I don't care if many other cyclists say "we're fitter than you, you're lazy, we've got a proper HPV, you're cheating" etc etc etc. The way I see it, we can each choose how we commute and how we anjoy riding a bike. A pedelec is just an easier way to commute and an alternative way to cycle for recreation for the not-so-fit. I do also greatly enjoy riding my e-bike, as it's much more comfortable on the road than my old hard tail MTB!

And don't forget that even with a pedelec you have to do some pedalling, so it's still more exercise than driving.

Anything which means there are more cyclists on the roads, especially if that person has swapped from a car to a bike, is a good thing.

I don't care if they're riding a BSO (as long as it's not so awful that it puts them off)
I don't care if they're a fake hipster on a fixie (TICK)
I don't care if they're using a pedelec
I don't care if they're a Cav wannabe in lycra
I don't care if they're on a vintage 3-speed with a basket

They are on a bike, and that is good.

I don't have a problem with it.I've been overtaken by slower stuff than an electric bike,if you know what I mean.

Actually I rode them in Thailand and I think they are very good.

I think BMXs are cool - when they're doing stunts. But they look very uncomfortable to ride any distance, with the saddle so low. Still, as above, it's a bike so gets a big tick from me.

Hmm, I saw a bloke riding one on the road the other day. He had all the male pattern baldness going on and looked into his 30's, but was 'sagging' with it which was a bit bizarre - It didn't really look right.

Yeah, BMX is definitely a youngster's game.
