I have to say, one of the first things that went through my mind when I got my professional membership was "ooh, I can sign passport photos now!"

So yeah, scientists.

A lot of Forces prohibit their dibble from signing these. I know not why.

Your countersignatory can’t:

• work for HM Passport Office
• be a doctor, unless they state that they know you well (eg good friend) and that they recognise you easily from your photo

I always wonder how they make the lists up...

Chiropodists Pharmacists and Nurses are specifically listed. Yet many other professionals with State Registration are eligible, but litsed under the clause "member, associate or fellow of a professional body" as they are not deemed worthy

I know for sure that the Irish do check, I had the curator sign mine and a few days after I had posted it she told me the passport office had just rung her to check her credentials and pass on the massage to expect it through the post in a few days.

You can actually get a "minister" from any fringe* church to sign it as "minister"..........*e.g. JWs etc.

I signed a couple for pupils when I was a driving instructor. You have to be approved and registered and they accepted it so it must have been ok.

Me too! Although that was 5 years ago and no one has asked me yet.
