Yes, those shorts weren't a 'best buy', by quite a long way (well, about four inches). But they were the 'team colours' for the photo...liked - though I hope the bikes are better than those shorts.

I've been to North Portugal for a summer holiday 2 years in a row, we went for walks so didn't cycle, however the Portuguese lady who looked after the place we stayed in told me that it was very popular with British cyclists. she had a big van and said that she used this to take the cyclists "many miles away, sometimes into Spain" so they could cycle back.Interesting. Have often wondered about portugal for cycling. Though very close it appears to be pretty off the radar.
Take a trip by sea. None of your floating hotel and associated mass tourism bollix; get yourself onto a cargo ship with your bike, and see the real world.
