A circa 1926 Perfection Cycle. This company later became Dawes.

A circa 1925 G.P.O delivery roadster. Sadly, while in my possession, I wasn't able to attribute a manufacturer.

I wonder, is it fashion or is it improved road surfaces that have seen the demise of the sprung saddle. By sprung, I mean really seriously sprung like those above with springs fore and aft.

By improved road surfaces, I mean that I imagine that there are far fewer unmetalled roads these days. We still have more than enough holes in the metalled ones.

An interesting point "Dogtrousers". I think 50/50 in all honesty.

I bought an old fore and aft sprung leather wrights saddle off the carboot a couple of years ago. I bunged it on my Dawes hybrid that I use on cycle tracks. Botty bliss
