The price of pasta in Italy is expected to rise by 27% (average family £700p.a.) as less farmers are growing deram (sp.) wheat as they can get greater subsidies for growing sunflowers to turn into bio-fuel.

So food goes out the window so people can drive their cars.

Comments please.

Not sure it's very much to do with EU subsidies. Italy gets most of its durum wheat from Canada and Syria.

The poor of South America are going to be hit hard by the rise in corn prices as it becomes bio-fuel fodder aswell. They'll very likely not be able to afford flour for tortillas, a staple of their diet, but we really need to keep the SUV's going so.. hey ho!
