Not strictly true, his Run Devil Run LP from the late 90s is a fine piece of work, a couple of excellent Macca tunes but mainly 50s rock and roll all recorded in a stripped down no frills style plus Mick Green and Geraint Watkins play on it and they're uber

Fair enough. Macca's music filled my teenage years and he can still, as you point out, turn out a good tune. I'm really thinking of him as a performer - the voice has gone.
