I've recently joined Cyclogs and seem to be near the bottom of the pile for my average speed:blush:. So tonight I decided to see whether I could crack the 12mph barrier. Result 12.9mph! I got rather hot and sweaty so will have to go back to my usual pootling pace on the way in otherwise I won't be very popular with my colleagues but maybe I'll aim to break 13mph on the way home next time:biggrin:. Thank you to all my fellow Cyclogs Cycle Chatters for giving me something to aim at.

Well done, although we all have a bit to do to get to your miles....

Well done! On my last ride i was ecstatic when the computer showed almost 20mph:biggrin:. Then I spotted I was doing 76mph whilst sitting at the PC:ohmy:. WiFi seems to interfere with the new Lidl computer. Quick calculation of distance v time soon brought me down to earth:sad:.

And I have even further to go to catch my namesake Auntie Helen:ohmy:. I've only managed so many miles because I got 55 in on 1st of the month on a CC ride.

Well you don't have to worry I'm the slowest:blush: on Cyclelogs even when I don't have a broken elbow:sad: - and at the moment my top speed is 10 mph (not my ave).

Last month I was trying to increase my speed to see if I could get into double figures for my ave.

Is that a problem ? How close to them do you sit ? Do you want them near you ?

I had a similar problem, it seemed ok on the flats, but if I ever went down a hill or a bit faster it would start spiking at 40+ mph. I didn't notice for a while coz I was watching the road when that happened, but was a bit confused when I looked at my maximum speed .

Couldn't trust it after that so had to go back to my trusty cat-eye with less features.

Well done, Helen. But don't worry that much: there's plenty of us round the 11-12mph mark.

I want to crack 13mph for a monthly average .. I've done it on some rides but can't quite manage to do it consistently enough. Maybe now I've got the knobblies off the commuter MTB I'll do better.

Damn and I thought I was going to be the slowest. I must try less hard.

Phil, I'm getting better, first time I did this it took me 2hrs 10mins, todays time in was an awesome, for me, 1hr 30mins 34secs, that takes me over the 13mph average for the first time. Problem is it's uphill, and dark, on the way home, so I'll see, as I only record the overall per day, not per trip. But I'm delighted with today, that's 9 minutes off my best from last week.

All this cycling I've been doing lately seems to be paying dividends. I set a personal best for my commute in this morning and I wasn't even trying! Knocked about 3 minutes off and was comfortably under 40 minutes, average 12.72. Who knows, maybe I'll overtake someone soon rather than being overtaken! To all the new/returning cyclists out there just persevere and you'll soon see rewards.
