My main desktop is throwing a wobbler. Made a funny noise when I shut it down last night and now it won't respond to any mouse clicks at all. The cursor will move, but nothing else. I've tried a different mouse and two different USB ports, but no joy. PC is a 2/12 year old Dell.

try starting it in safe mode, switch it off, turn it back on and tap F8 until the choices menu appears, choose safe mode with networking. If pc runs ok do a system restore to a couple of days ago.

If all else fails and if you can get the computer to co-operate, go to "accessories" select "command prompt" right click and run as administrator, when command prompt window opens type in "sfc /scannow" without the inverted commas, let the scan complete then exit and reboot.
