You could also see if your bios keeps logs of the post process. Boot into bios settings to find them.

Laptops are weird. I have one that lost its screen in use with a monitor. The same monitor I use with the work laptop (HDMI connection). I also have a second monitor connected through an adapter into a usb c port on the wotk laptop

Realised at the weekend my screen less laptop has a usb c port. Plugged in the second monitor whilst the laptop was switched on and the screen lit up with a desktop. Just had to flip the screen settings to get the mouse to move correctly between them.
Switched off. When I switched it back on the second monitor was blank.

It's possible the PSU (power supply unit) on your PC's motherboard has died. That's just one possible cause, anyway.

I'm hoping that's not the case that as the PC is not worth spending much money on, and I'd not buy a 2nd hand psu.

On the su bject of the CR2032 battery

It migth help to take it out and try restarting it
that could reset some setting to default which might get over any problems

or not - Good Luck

Worth a try. It's come to that. Give anything a go.

It seems to be behaving at the moment, touch wood. It's booted every time from cold with the screen off, and has so far happily rebooted with the screen on. So I've been able to get to look at the BIOS. Sadly, no logs. Apparantly, in some BIOSs there's something like an option to increase the delay in monitor detection - that'd be worth a go if I could find such a thing.

It's scared it will be launched out of the window, so is behaving !

It's died again. I'm now of the belief it's a dodgy motherboard/vga port. I'm on the 1st floor. If I launch it out of the window, how far will the debris scatter do you think?

If you chuck it out of an upstairs window and watch it fall

it will start working half way down

This is, in my opinion, evidence that there is a parallel universe with a gateway that mischievous imps use to come through and bugger around with people

you know when you put something down
then go to get it and it just is not there
then your wife comes in and says "It's there" and it is exactly where you thought it was and looked first

Imps

its imps

go on - tell me you have thought not there must be something like that!!!
